What the proprietor says

Rafi's Spice Box opened in 1989 and the number of times I have heard people say "I would love to give a party serving my guests Indian or Oriental dishes if I did not get so harried and harassed. Trying to be a cook, hostess and party giver at the same time is too much for me".

You will now be able to come along and have a free consultancy. I will help you design your menu and my main concern will be to plan a menu which is built around the needs of the cook/hostess who can be given the chance to relax and enjoy her own party and her guests. Using my mixes you will find there is very little for you to do and of course nothing will go wrong. The majority of the dishes can be prepared in advance which in fact helps them to improve and settle before re-heating and serving. You will find at the shop all the starters, accompaniments, breads, fresh herbs etc. I already have several very satisfied customers so do not be the one to be left behind.

At the Spice Box we are always at hand to describe and explain:

The origins and influences of Indian, Chinese, Malay, Thai and Indonesian cuisines.

Methods of preparing oriental food by correctly combining herbs and spices to release their distinctive flavours.

Traditional cooking techniques, utensils and serving customers.

Customer Reviews

Did not live up to their reputation.

I bought a few spice mixes from Rafi's and cooked them up at home. I was bitterly disappointed. I found them really bland. I thought the flavour might improve the next day but it did not. I would not use their products again and would not recommend. I have cooked better myself from scratch using a good Indian cookbook.
